Servants Story
Deborah Jean (Rhodes) Moon was born on February 13, 1952, in Denver, Colorado to her parents Edgar L. Rhodes, Sr. and Bessie Virden Lozano-Carrera. She was affectionately called Debbie by her friends and family and Nana and Honey by her grandchildren. Debbie was the fourth of five children and was raised in Colorado Springs, CO. Deborah graduated high school in 1969. She excelled in both academics and sports which led to her receiving enough credits to graduate a year early.
In 1969, Debbie united in holy matrimony to Norman E. Moon. To this union, Eric, Aaron, Anthony and Michael were born. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who took great pride in the care and nurturing of her family. Debbie was later blessed with 10 grandchildren; Tyler, Alonzo, Elijah, Michael, Nyla, Erin, AJ, Christian, Liya and Ayla and one great grandchild, Alex, Jr. Debbie was a loving and attentive grandmother who enjoyed spending a great deal of quality time making each grandchild feel uniquely special. The memories are priceless and will be forever cherished.
A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Debbie was led to the Lord by a coworker named Juanita in 1971. The same woman led her husband Norman to the Lord a short time later. After Norman graduated from seminary, he and Debbie moved from Colorado Springs and founded a church in Denver, CO in 1981. The ministry quickly grew and went on to establish other churches in Denver and in other surrounding cities. In addition to raising her children, Debbie supported the ministry by playing an active role in the church and taking on duties as the First Lady. In the beginning of their ministry, they didn’t have music so, Debbie taught herself to play the organ accompanying Norman as he led worship. Norman and Debbie’s legacy of faith still exists in the hearts of many today. After Pastor Norman’s passing in 2018, the torch was handed to his son Anthony and his wife Helen. The ministry continues to thrive in Lakewood, Colorado.
After raising her children, Debbie went to work for the City and County of Denver in the Community Corrections department. She was hard working, dedicated and performed her duties with a spirt of excellence. She worked well and was admired by her colleagues. Debbie was eventually promoted to Executive Assistant to the Director of Community Corrections. Debbie later retired in 2009.
Although Debbie was a fun-loving woman who enjoyed life, she was a no-nonsense mother when it came to keeping her four sons in line. She was an active mother, attending school and sporting events and was the loudest voice cheering from the crowd. Debbie had a unique personality and sense of humor that put everyone around her at ease. She was intelligent, quick-witted and sarcastic. She was a fast learner and could accomplish anything she set her mind to. She was a strong woman! She demonstrated her physical and mental strength to include her faith in God daily while dealing with an illness during the final years of her life. She exceeded doctors' expectations by living several years past her diagnosis. Debbie believed strongly in the power of prayer and the importance of having an active relationship with the Lord. When approached by her children with problems or challenges, the first thing she’d ask was, “did you pray about it?”
Debbie departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on December 22, 2020, surrounded by her family who patiently and painstakingly cared for her during her final days. Debbie leaves behind a legacy of love and a void that cannot be filled.
Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her loving and devoted children Aaron (Maribel) Moon, Pastor Anthony (Helen) Moon all of Denver, Colorado; Michael (Lizette) Moon of Arvada, Colorado; her sister Patricia (John) Hopper of Alexandria, Virginia, 10 grandchildren; Tyler Moon, Alonzo Moon, Elijah Moon, Michael Moon, Jr., Nyla Moon, Erin Moon, AJ Moon, Liya Moon, Christian Moon, Ayla Moon; one great grandchild; Alex, Jr.; In addition, she is also survived by a host of other relatives who love and will miss her dearly.
