Deaconess Waller

March 3, 1933 — February 9, 2017

Henrene Vivian (White) Waller died peacefully in the comfort of her own home on February 9, 2017, in Arvada, CO at the age of 83. She was born 3/3/33 in Egypt, Mississippi to Henry White and Bessye Crump. She graduated from Okolona Jr. College with a Degree in Education, and later married Airman Frank Waller, of Virginia in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Eight children were born to this union and the couple ensured that each were introduced to the Lord and baptized. Henrene also attended The University of Mississippi, Weber State College, The University of Utah, and Metropolitan State College, Denver. She worked for the United States Bureau of Land Management at the Federal Center in Lakewood, Colorado and later as a Sr. Lead Purchasing and Contracting Agent for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, from which she retired in 1995. She continued to work for various federal and state agencies even after her retirement for the next 15 years. Being married to an airman, Henrene lived in several different states and was an active member of many churches at each station. When they moved to Denver in 1979 the family joined Union Missionary Baptist, and later Mount Carmel Baptist and finally Rising Star Baptist Church where she's been a member for the past 20+ years. She has been a Deaconess for 50+ years and was President of the Deaconess ministry at Rising Star Baptist. Henrene's life has always revolved around church. She sang in the choir, was a Sunday School teacher, and worked on numerous committees and programs at a national, state and local level. She was President of the Senior Women's Department of the GMBC (General Missionary Baptist Convention) of Colorado, and was the culminating speaker for the Senior Women of the National Baptist Convention of America Inc. She conducted, facilitated and participated in workshops for the Utah-Idaho District Association for many years and was given the distinct honor of introducing the theme for the American Baptist Women's Conference. Henrene was known across the nation to friends, family and colleagues as a spiritual, kind, gentle and patient soul who always encouraged others to trust in the Lord. She encouraged and uplifted the discouraged, ill, bereaved and downtrodden even after her illness had progressed. She took to heart the words of the old gospel song: "If I can help somebody as they travel along life's way; then my living will not be in vain." She is deeply mourned by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, in-laws and a host of other relatives and friends.
