Deacon Dishmon, Jr.

August 20, 1937 — October 13, 2014

William Dishmon Jr. was born to William Dishmon, Sr. and Leola Smith Dishmon Boon August 20, 1937, in Ferriday, Louisiana. He was the first born to this union. He was raised surrounded by his two siblings, Louis and Carrie. William attended Sevier Rosenwald High School and graduated in 1957. After high school, William joined the United States Army RA INF branch and was stationed in Fort Hamilton, New York. William was enlisted for three years and was honorably discharged in 1963. William moved to Colorado in the early 1970's and was soon her sister Dorothy Nixon. William admired that Frances was a great cook, took care of the house and was an amazing mother. The two were quickly married on October 21, 1972, in Denver, at the Campbell Memorial Church of God in Christ by the Late Bishop L.A. Jordan. William raised Frances' four children Alex, Leroy, Angela, and Stacey as though they were his own flesh and blood. They also went on to have two more children, Nicole and Queena. William was easily described as a family man that cherished and took great pride in being the provider to his family financially, emotionally and spiritually. He was naturally shy yet very assertive and to the point with his words. He was a charismatic man that could easily steal the hearts and ignite smiles amongst all his friends and family. Later in life, William enjoyed helping to raise his grandchildren: Lee, Blair, Porsha, Michael, Marquese, India, Asia, Isiah, Zenobia, Radon, Phillip, and his great grandchildren, Stephon, Teaon, Deandre, Tomas, Essence, London, Kadence. By profession, William was a truck driver for over 30 years for Jones Trucking and Yellow Freight; he retired in 2000. His co-workers considered him a man of his word, dedicated and faithful to the job and his family. William was also a member of the Elks Club Lodge and earned the highest title of the Exalted Ruler. Members of the club were known for their principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly love, Fidelity and strong belief in God. He was a man's man; he loved doing yard work, and working on cars. William enjoyed all sports especially those Broncos! You could always find him watching a classic Western movie, reading his daily newspaper, fixing things around the house or helping anyone in need. In his final years, William moved back home to Ferriday, Louisiana to take care of his mother. In the summer of 2008, he gave his life to the Lord and was baptized by Reverend Willie Birden at St. Paul Baptist Church. William showed courage and tremendous strength while dealing with cancer. It was important to him for everyone to always remember what he stood for and who he was; a man of dignity, respect, compassion, generous, and kind hearted, this will be an easy task. William was preceded by death by his wife, Frances Dishmon; his daughter, Queena Dishmon;.his parents, William Dishmon Sr., and Leola Dishmon; his brother, Louis Dishmon; and his sister, Carrie Dishmon-Sims. William Dishmon, Jr. went home with the Lord on October 13, 2014 in Ferriday, Louisiana. Those left to remember his life, and to mourn this loss include his children, Alex Thomas, Leroy Thomas, both of Denver, Angela Thomas, Aurora, Stacey Thomas, Ferriday, LA, Nicole (Phillip) Carter, Denver; 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren; his great aunt, Victoria Taylor, Ferriday, LA; his niece, Andrea Sears; his great nieces, Wesley and Taylor of Duluth, GA; his cousin, Kenneth Johnson of Denver, CO; and a host of friends throughout Ferriday, LA and Colorado. This amazing man who we all knew and loved simply as Dad is now finally at peace. No more suffering, no more pain.
