Idella Louvenia Cannon was the third child of Elder Frank Price and Idella Woods Price, born in Pueblo, Colorado and raised in Topeka, Kansas, where she was educated through the Topeka public school systems. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and spent the rest of her life serving God with boldness. Louvenia met and married the love of her life Mr. George A. Cannon; to this union five children were born. In 1952, the couple relocated to Denver, Colorado to be closer to her siblings. She joined Central Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. W.O. Mays. There she would serve in many leadership roles. She was a gifted vocalist and frequently led the beautiful songs of Zion with spirit and conviction. Additional, she served as President of the Missionary Department, Retreat Coordinator, teacher for the Young Matrons, and worked in the Women's Department. She was appointed to serve on the Deaconess Board, and did so faithfully for many years. Louvenia was committed to doing God's work beyond the walls of Central Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Northern District Baptist Association. She created the annual program, the "Jesus' Birthday Celebration." She was a member and officer of the Western States Baptist Convention where she served as First Vice President under the leadership of Mrs. Margaret McCaskill. Louvenia had the opportunity to go to the National Baptist Convention and was a featured soloist, while serving under Mrs. Esther Nash, Women's President of Colorado. In 1995, she joined the New Hope Baptist Church, where Reverend Dr. James D. Peters, Jr., was the Senior Pastor. Under his leadership she was ordained to serve on the Board of Deacons. Deacon Cannon was a Sunday School Teacher until she was no longer able to teach due to her health. She worked with the Women's Missionary Auxiliary as Worship Leader, Women of Hope Women's Ministry, and participated and attended the Wednesday, night Prayer Service as often as she could. She loved her church and its members, and she was proud of her service rendered to the Deacon Board. Louvenia loved family, and would do anything to help them in their time of need. She enjoyed having her family near her, and was always happy to host a family gathering at her home. She was very close to all four of her sisters and was affectionately nick name "Plucky" by her siblings. She only had one brother who she adored but often had a difference of opinions concerning matters of the heart; however, they always manage to agree to disagree. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, each one of them beautiful in their own way, and each one more precious than gold. She loved them but disciplined them whenever necessary, and she never failed to talk with them about the love of Jesus, and she encouraged them to accept him as the Lord of Savor in their life. She was a foster parent to many children over the years, and adopted two children into the family, and loving them as her own. She never met anyone that she didn't love, and would witness to most people she met about the goodness of God. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 121. She lived her life in a way that was a testament to her understanding, belief and witness to the words which said "I will lift up my eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help, my help cometh from the Lord… " she knew that the Lord is the only true source. One of her favorite songs was "The Battle Is Not Ours, It's the Lord's; these words she carried in her heart every time she struggled with a medical challenge that seemed hopeless. She lived her life by the words from this old familiar hymn "If I can help somebody as I travel along, if I can cheer somebody with a word or a song, if I can show somebody that their traveling wrong, then my living shall not be in vain. On January 8, 2015, after years of declining health, the Lord saw that she was getting tired and called her home. From labor to rest we can be assured that she heard the words we all want to hear one day "Well Done My Good And Faithful Servant, Well Done!" She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Deacon George A. Cannon, Sr., two sons George A. Cannon, Jr., Rev. Darrell E. Cannon, Sr., three siblings, Frank Price, Jr., Louise Moore, and Patricia Parson. Left to cherish her memory is two daughters, Nathala Young, Porsha Cannon, three sons, Stephen Cannon, Dale Cannon, Jay Cannon, twenty Grandchildren, Forty Great Grandchildren, and Fifteen Great, Great, Grandchildren, a host of nephews and nieces, extended family and many close friends. Additional she had three very special friends, Hattie Smith, Joan Ryan, Evelma Judkins, Cordia Rebels, as well as the many children she call her own, given to her by God. We All loved her, but God loved her best. She will be sorely missed, but never forgotten!
