David Walker, Jr. aka Dawud Muhammad Rahman was born on October 14, 1946, in Denver, Colorado to his parents, David Walker, Sr. and Codie Moore Walker. He was the third child of seven born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brother, George and his sisters, Judy, Ruby, and Linda. As a child, he loved fishing with his dad and younger brother. He was close with all his siblings and enjoyed conversing with his close friends, whom he called his “Partners” “A brother from another mother.” David received his early education in Denver where he graduated from Manuel High School in 1962. He furthered his education by attending the Community College of Denver. On July 24, 1967, David enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, he earned a Vietnam Campaign Medal, 4 OS Bars, a National Defense Service Medal, Expert M16, and a Sharpshooter Ribbon for the M14. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. David met and later married, Carolyn Walker. To this union, a son they named David O. Walker, III was born. With this union, he became the father of Latasha then later, Dawud. It was very important that the now blended family was as one. Taking care of the family was his number one priority. David’s and Carolyn’s marriage was one of unconditional love. They worked together as a team. Latasha fondly remembers him as the only one who called her “Tasha”. Dawud remembers dad as teaching him to be a leader even during difficult times. David fondly remember dad taking him to the Ramsey Exhibit at the Denver Museum. His dad loved heritage and culture. David was later blessed with ten grandchildren, Jhaimier, Deshone, Dominque, Shannell, Tajanae, Carolyn, Saniah, Donjure, Derrick, Tajamere, Layla; and six great grandchildren, Daron, Makai, Danielle, Codie, Caylei, and Kamau, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. The lovingly called him “Grandpa or Grandad” and fondly remember him talking about his life experiences, driving his nice Cadillac, and spending quality time with family. David was a man, who was no stranger to work. Some of his professional skill included working in Architecture, Carpentry, and Home Renovations. He was hard-working and performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. He was a member of the Nation of Islam and had been a Free Mason for over forty years. David was a fun-loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled in his free time, he enjoyed listening to music, traveling, reading books and magazines. He was also a sports enthusiast, he loved culture, and believed in keeping his mind spiritually strong. His closest friends, Willie, West, and Robert will miss his personality, his style, and being cool known as “Doc.” He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this strong, God-fearing man, who stood up for what he believed.
