David Cowans was born on November 1, 1924 to his parent, Carl Cowans and Mamie Smith Cowans. He was the fifth child to be born to this Christian – Holy Ghost filled couple down in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He was raised on a farm and enjoyed the beauty and environment of country living. He shared this life with seven siblings. He loved swimming up and down the fast running river and fishing was his forte'. The children; including David, worked many months of the year to yield crops for a living with their parents so this didn't leave much time for education-but he was very fluent in reading and writing and "loved" mathematics. David was employed by Roth and Armour Meat Packing House as a beef boner; cutting up a cow each hour. He worked two additional jobs to make sure the family was well taken care of. He also worked for the City of Denver making the roads accessible. He also worked as a truck driver taking an eighteen wheeler across many states. He loved his family so hard work was the things he taught his family. He was married at a very young age to a sweet woman by the name of Opal Reed and he father four children; Sylvester Cowans, Queenester Cowans-Lewis, David Cowans, Jr. and Anna Lois Cowans – Lewis all of Oklahoma. He later met the love of his life Elizabeth Nelweeta White – Cowans and had eleven children and one step-son. Lankford Grayson, Bernette Cowans, Joslyn Cowans – Owens (John), Sherrie Cowans, Carl Cowans, Elizabeth Cowans – Raibon (Lawrence), Gary Cowans, Daniel Cowans (deceased), Claudette Cowans – Buchanan (Bryan), Kennard Cowans all of Denver, Colorado. Lennard Cowans and Daverette Cowans are both living in Orange County and Irvine County of California. He loved all his children and they enjoyed each other throughout the years as they grew up. David gave is life to the Lord when he was fifty years old. He always feared and trusted in the Lord and his wife, Elizabeth was strong in faith and actions and prayed daily for the family to all meet Jesus. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He was the last one to leave this world to join the others… his parents, Carl and Mamie Cowans; his siblings, John Lee Cowans, Melvin Cowans, Dorothy Rouse, Joseph Cowans, David Cowans, Amos Cowans, Daniel Cowans, Jessie Cowans and his son, Daniel Cowans. David Cowans, Sr. left this world to meet Jesus on October 13, 2014 in peace. He was the best father any one could have had after knowing Christ Jesus. We enjoyed dad greatly. He had a strong loud laugh, and a big smile which would light up any room. He never lost his rhythm and would sing and move to any gospel song he heard. He was very protective of his family and made sure they knew right from wrong. He strongly believed in educating his children and did everything in his power to make sure they had what they needed to succeed in life. David Cowans, Sr., has planted good seeds and has yield good crops from good ground…and he has left a good legacy.
