Daniel Marshall Jr.

Daniel Bland Marshall, Jr. was born October 25, 1934, in Jasper, Texas, to Daniel B. Marshall Sr. and Marzella Marshall. Affectionately known to family and friends as "Buck" or "Marshall," he graduated from J.H. Rowe High School where he was involved in track and field. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1958, stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO, where he received an Honorable Discharge.

Daniel was joined in holy matrimony to Martha Ann (Emma Jewel) Marshall on February 22, 1963. There were three children born to this union: Duane, Derwin, and Dexter.

Daniel was dedicated and dependable in his work career as he provided for his family. He had a very stable career at Butternut Bread Company for over 20 years as a Loader and became highly respected among his peers, helping him get elected as the Union Shop Steward until he retired from the company in the early ’80s. Also, during this time, Daniel also obtained a second career-that he held for many years-driving a taxi for Ritz Cab (which later became known as Metro Taxi) from the 1960s to the early 2000s.

His many years of driving a taxi around Denver and throughout the state of Colorado made him an expert in knowing locations of places, landmarks, and addresses. Before GPS and computers, Daniel earned the esteemed reputation of the "go-to" man for directions among his family and friends. He could explain in detail how to get to a place you were unfamiliar with and needed to go and many times he wouldn’t hesitate to take his friends and family there, free of charge.

A "jack of all trades", he later started his own painting company, Dan's Interior and Exterior Painting. He quickly became known to provide good, quality, work. However, even as the chief of his own company, his generosity shined through; for those who wanted his services, but could not afford to get the job done, he helped by reducing his prices and extending payment options to them. Along the way, he also taught, helped, employed, and mentored many people who came to work with him in this endeavor-including his sons.

Brother Daniel grew in his faith in the Lord over the years and was a long-time member of Prince of Peace Church of God in Christ in Denver, where he served as a Deacon and Usher under Pastors William Coburn Jr., and William Brent Coburn. He would often say, "Let God handle it." He had rock solid nerves and would always be somebody you could call upon in a time of need. You could easily see his walk in the Spirit of God, bearing the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. He left a great example for his children and grandchildren to follow.

Daniel was gentle and generous; humble and humorous; looked up to and loved. He was passionate about family, having a strong sentimental affection for both immediate and extended family members. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing, and always loved to go visit his family in Texas and California. He also loved sitting on the porch on nice days talking with family and friends while eating a bowl of ice cream.

Daniel maintained friendships with many that extended more than 40 years. He always did his best to leave situations better than the way he found them, whether it be doing for his family, helping a friend, fixing a door, painting a room, or, making a quick joke to put a smile on someone's face before he left.

Daniel is preceded in death by his wife Martha; mother and father, Marzella Marshall and Daniel B. Marshall, Sr.; sisters, Ira Jean Tarver and Mary Louise Farris; and brother, Albert Dean Mays, Sr.

Daniel Bland Marshall departed this life on December 8, 2018, in Denver, Colorado. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Duane (Lisa), Derwin, and Dexter; four grandchildren, Teilah (Cornell), Tamara, Jorion, and Rajhae; and four great-grandchildren, Jada, Jaylen, Kyion, and Emani. He also leaves to cherish his memory his stepmother, Mae Bell Marshall; sisters, Ruth Wallace, Betty Marshall, and Margaret Francis; brothers, Thomas Marshall (Rosie) and Herman Marshall (Shelby); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and plenty friends.
