Curtis Gomez

December 6, 1937 — January 7, 2017

Curtis Marie Gomez, affectionately called "Suga" by friends and "Mama Curtis" by everyone else, was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on December 6, 1937, to parents John D. and Iva Hess. Curtis was the youngest child born to this union. She had 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Curtis attended school in the Denver Public Schools district, including Mitchell Elementary, Cole Junior High, and graduating from Manual High School Class of 1955. In 1954, she married Herman Wilson (deceased) their home was blessed with four children, Jamel(deceased) Renita, Tamara, and Ricardo. Later, she was reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Freddie Gomez, Jr. and married in July 1975. She had a lifelong career at Rocky Flats Plant and retired from there. Once retired, she spent endless days gardening, cooking and baking for others especially her Gumbo, Sweet Potato Pie and Rum Cake. Curtis loved her bowling club the Strikers and Strikettes, doing crossword puzzles, watching "The Young & The Restless", playing the football pool and watching the Denver Broncos. Family was Curtis's greatest joy. She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was truly the Matriarch of the family in every sense of the word. As a child of God, Curtis was a devoted member of Union Baptist Church and served in several ministries within the church. She was slow to anger, quick to forgive and always offered sound advice. Her love, care, laugh, contagious smile, open arms, and optimism will greatly be missed by all that were blessed to know her. Curtis was preceded in death by her daughter, Jamel White; her parents, John & Iva Hess; her sisters, Myrtle Hess, Meriam Dailey, Vera Carter and brothers, John D. Hess Jr, Robert Hess, Clarence Hess; and her grandson, Courtney Armour. Curtis was called home to glory on the morning of Saturday, January 7, 2017. We all loved her but God loved her best. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Freddie Gomez, Jr.; her children, Renita D Bell, Tamara Y. Armour of Denver, CO, Ricardo C. Wilson of Huntington Beach, CA; her sister, Doris James of Los Angeles, CA, her sister in law Rosalie Taylor of Denver, CO, her grandchildren, Kory Wilson(Delfina) of Northglenn, CO, Ryan White of Denver, CO, Tiffany Armour of Houston, TX, Tristin Perkins, Tracee Robinette (Kenny) and Elgin Bell of Denver, CO; her great grandchildren, Kiosha, Xavier, Jadin, Amare Wilson, Jordan Robinette, Jacobe Robinette, Issac Perkins; 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and many many friends and a special love for Roshon Maxey "Ro Ro" and Rochelle "Baby Ro".
