Craig Martin, Jr. "Pooh
On a beautiful autumn day in 1980, Craig Martin, Jr., lovingly known to all as Pooh, arrived in the vibrant city of Aurora, Colorado, a cherished gift to parents Craig, Sr. and Treva Martin. As the second oldest of three siblings, Pooh’s warm spirit and unwavering strength would soon illuminate the lives of those around him.
Raised initially in Denver before his family found a home in Montbello and then settled in Aurora, Pooh was a beacon of joy and energy. His educational journey took him through various local schools, where he laid the foundation for a life bursting with passion and ambition. From Hallett Elementary to Denver East High School, he was not just a student; he was an athlete who left an indelible mark on the track, field, and court.
A natural on the field, Pooh carried the pride of his family as he became a notable member of the football, track, and basketball teams at East High. He earned accolades, including all-conference honors in football, and claimed two district championships in long jump, showcasing his remarkable athleticism. As a key player on the basketball team, he experienced the thrill of victory by scoring the game-winning basket during his senior year, helping his team clinch the state championship—a moment that would forever remain etched in the hearts of his teammates.
After defining high school achievements, Craig ventured to continue his education and athletic dreams in Iowa and then Garden City, Kansas, before finding a home at Mesa State College. Life, as it often does, had other plans, leading him back to Denver where he began working alongside his father at United Parcel Service. Yet, Pooh’s passion for sports never waned; he remained an enthusiastic participant in basketball tournaments and took great pride in mentoring young boys in the Gold Crown Basketball leagues.
Beyond the court, Pooh was a talented part-time barber, a skill that blossomed when he picked up his first pair of clippers at just 14 years old. A self-taught artist in hairstyling, he brought confidence and style to friends and family alike. His culinary talents flourished in various restaurants, where he served as a chef’s assistant, bringing joy to his loved ones through the meals he prepared. A lover of cats, he shared a special bond with his feline companion, Smokey, and found joy in the company of family during movie nights filled with true crime, comedy, and horror.
As the oldest cousin on his father's side, Pooh embraced the role of protector and role model, especially for his younger relatives who shared his passion for sports. His unwavering support and compassion made him not only a beloved family member but also a cherished friend—a kind soul whose presence was a gift that illuminated every room he entered.
Craig Martin, Jr. departed from this world on March 12th, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. He is survived by his devoted parents, Craig Martin, Sr. and Treva Martin; his beloved siblings, Phoebe and Hyacinth; and a vast network of relatives and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
