Colene Collins

September 16, 1953 — October 25, 2018

Colene Faye Dedmon Collins was born on September 16, 1953, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to her mother, Mildred Dedmon. Colene was the firstborn child in the family. She was raised with her younger, Bruce. They enjoyed many good times together as young children. Colene attended school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating from McLain High School.

While in High School, Colene met the love of her life, Calvin Collins. They dated for a few years; they were inseparable and enjoyed each other's company. On September 16, 1976, Colene's birthday, in Tulsa, Calvin and Colene became one in marriage. To this union, four children were born, Darico, Tanisha, Nichole, and Calvin, Jr. The family was tight-knit and enjoyed being together. The children remember all of the get-to-gathers and how Colene loved to have them come over to the house for any occasion. Colene always made a point to never miss a birthday. From her kids and their spouses to each grandchild, she always made a phone call or had a gift ready to celebrate another year. Colene and Calvin were blessed with 18 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. The grandchildren so lovingly called Colene, "Granny." They remember their grandmother cooking and baking the best pies and cakes, and how she loved to bring the grandkids together to teach them how to cook.

Colene worked in the Denver Mint and ended her working career by working for the Denver Public Schools Transportation Department. She was a professional bus driver. Her co-workers would call her committed and capable, always working with a spirit of excellence.

She was a member of the American Bowling Association. Colene was a decorated member with many awards and a winner of many tournaments. She bowled on many local and national lanes. A skilled bowler who maintained her outstanding score and handicap bragging rights.

In her past time, Colene loved cooking, bowling, playing cards, and dominoes. She played weekly Penuckle and Dominoes games with friends and family for many years. Calvin and Colene usually played as a team and they always brought their "A" game. Colene's best friend and cousin, Gwen Walker, will miss her great cooking and hospitality. Colene will be missed by all who have been fortunate enough to have known and loved her.

Colene is preceded in death by her son, Calvin Collins, Jr.; mother, Mildred Dedmon; and her brother, Bruce Dedmon.
