Charlie Fowler, Jr.

April 23, 1930 — January 22, 2015

Charlie Fowler, Jr. was born on April 23, 1930, in Van, Arkansas to his parents, Charlie Fowler, Sr. and Eva Elma Butler Fowler. He was the first born in the family. As a child, he enjoyed walking around the family farm, hunting, fishing, playing baseball and helping out with his younger siblings. Charlie received his formal education in Arkansas. He furthered his education by attending the AME Shorter Institute Boarding College in North Little Rock, Arkansas. On September 14, 1948, Charlie began his military service by enlisting in the United States Air Force. For the next 22 years, he served his country. While in the Air Force, he earned countless awards, ribbons and citations; to include the UN Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Award, Outstanding Unit Award just to name a few. Many of the medals he earned were given with bronze star attachments, oak leaf clovers and gold leaf clovers all denoting excellence in service. His travel while in the Air Force was extensive. He was stationed at instillations both foreign and domestic. He served with honor and distinction and on June 5, 1971, he retired at the rank of a Master Sergeant (E7). In April of 1951, Charlie united in holy matrimony to the former Lille Bea Holmes. To this union, four beautiful children were born, two boys, Paul "Eddie" Edward and Benjamin "Benny Ray" and two girls, Sharon and Janice. He was a doting and devoted husband and father. Nothing was more important to him than care and nurture of his family. They all shared many happy and precious moments together. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie and a daughter, Janice. Charlie was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. To everyone, he was called "Dad" this included the grandchildren, great grandchildren, the neighborhood children and many adults. This was easy because he was always warm, welcoming and encouraging. After his military discharge, Charlie became employed with the United States Postal Service. He was hardworking, dedicated, worked well with others and performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. Charlie accepted the Lord as his personal savior in the early 80's and became a member of the Church of Christ. He was a member of The Retired Enlisted Association, Chapter 3 (TREA), The Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) and The American Legion. Charlie was a fun loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed visiting the Dog Track; where he was often called "Dog Track Charlie or Fowler." He was a sports enthusiast and watched all kind of sports. He loved baseball and football and didn't mind placing a small wager on the team of his choice. He was a man who never met a stranger. He had a great sense of humor and a smile that would lite any room. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this one of a kind guy. To know Charlie was to love him. Charlie Fowler, Jr. departed this life on January 22, 2015, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include 2 sons, Paul E. Fowler and Benjamin R. Fowler; 1 daughter, Sharon K. Fowler all of Denver, Colorado; his devoted friend, Yvonne Crouch of Denver; 2 brothers, Herman (Idell) Fowler of Ft. Wayne, IN and Terry (Angela) Fowler of Arlington, TX; 6 sisters, Doris Fowler of N. Dallas, TX, Myra Mullins, DeWitt, TX, Eva (Steve) Whitney, Florence, MO, Evelyn Chance, Desoto, TX, Celestine Wright, Ft. Wayne, IN and Debra Coleman, Glenn Heights, TX; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friend.
