Charles Bernard Wright was born on August 31, 1950 to Emanuel Wright and Lillie Mae Jones Wright, in McCormick County, South Carolina. Charles joined his sister Ernestine as the second oldest of his family. Unfortunately, Charles’ mother Lillie Mae, died in child birth. Emanuel remarried and Charles was raised by his maternal grandmother, Mother Jessie Jones Charles was born blind. His lack of sight was only physical. He was a bright, enthusiastic, adventuresome child who excelled at The School for the Blind in Raleigh, NC. He and his grandmother were very close. She taught him the value of being a person of integrity, independence, and God fearing. He loved his family and stayed in touch with his father step-mom and siblings. In the early 70’s Charles moved to Denver. He met and married Vickie and to this union came four children Rossa, Charles Jr., Kristia and Nakita. He worked at various manufacturing companies as an assembly line worker and he proved to be a hardworking family man. When his marriage to Vickie ended in divorce, Charles became a single father. He was blessed to meet Betty Harris after becoming single and she became his devoted companion. His children have fond memories of their father riding a bicycles, jumping rope and doing everything with them. He loved to play Dominos, cards, and listen to music. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. When it came to cooking for the family he was known as “The One Pot Wonder”. He would put everything in one pot. The family favorite was his special chicken and rice. A man of God, Charles was an active member of the Sanctuary Christian Fellowship Church. He shared his gift of song and his voice would bring tears to your eyes. Proceeding him in death was his parents Emanuel and Lillie Mae Wright, stepmother Essie Wright, sister Ernestine Wright, Grandmother Jessie Jones and devoted companion Betty Harris. Charles Bernard Wright departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on February 27, 2018 in Denver, Colorado. Left to cherish his memory are his children Rossa, Charles Jr., Kristia Wright and Nakita Devore all of Denver; 11 grand-children Jo’vonte Jile Wright, Unique Wooden, Anthony Garcia, Qua’zhon Mobley, Devine, Elijah, Essence Wooden, Camron Birch, Amire Wooden, Yasmere Devore, and Quis Birch; six sisters Shirley Strong, Phyllis (James) Sanders, Martha Stevenson, Gail Martin, Jennifer Wright, and Jacqueline (Reggie) Smith all of Greenwood S.C; seven brothers Emanuel Lee (Frankie), Larry (Gail), Harry Phelb, Roger, Carl, and Greg Wright all of Greenwood, SC and David Collins of Norristown, PA.
