Celia Colleen Lovejoy Fauntleroy was born on September 6, 1934, in Kansas, Atchison. She was one of two children born to Lorenzo Lovejoy and Emma S.E. Lovejoy. As a child, Celia loved basketball, and ran track.
Celia matriculated through the public school system, as a straight ‘A’ student, graduating from Potter High School in 1952 in Atchinson, Kansas. She later attended Metropolitan State College of Denver.
God was always first in Celia’s life, and she instilled His love and presence in those who crossed her path. Her servant’s heart was evident in all she did. It seemed as though she purposefully worked positions that would allow her direct access to be a blessing to those she met. Celia was a “no nonsense” yet loving woman and she loved helping, teaching and working with children. She worked at Fitzsimons for 33 years, East High School for 10 years, and Skyland (now Hiawatha) Recreation Center for 12 years. In her spare time, Celia was an avid reader, enjoyed book club, watching movies, listening to gospel and R&B music, traveling all over the world, bowling, exercising, swimming, and tending to her yard.
On January 22, 2022, Celia departed this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her niece, Rhonda Lovejoy of El Paso, TX; nephews, David Lovejoy of Houston, TX and Lorenzo Lovejoy of El Paso, TX.
