Cedric Smith

Cedric Jerome Smith, Sr. was born on September 6, 1973, in Hearne, Texas to his mother, Gloria D. Smith. He was an eight-pound baby who bought joy and happiness to his family. His mother was often teased because in her eyes, he could do no wrong. He was her "Golden Baby." It is often said, "a woman cannot raise a man, but Gloria is credited with doing so with love, dedication, and patience. He was an only child and was spoiled rotten as a result. He shared a special closeness with his grandmother and loved spending summers in Hearne along with his cousins, Dana, Dominick, Tiffani, Sonya, Tish, and sometimes Turri. They all were able to enjoy country living. They were often teased by the neighborhood children because they thought they talked "proper." None the less, they shared many happy and precious moments together during those summer vacations.

Cedric accepted the Lord and his personal savior and was baptized alongside, Dana and Domnick at Jone's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne, Texas. He attended Sunday school with Mrs. Whitehead as the teacher and he often worshipped at the church when visiting in Hearne. He loved hanging out with his uncles as they barbequed and played street ball and other activities. The family fondly remembers them wearing a path in the grass as they walked to "Mrs. Easters" for freeze cups and snacks from Seymore's and other neighborhood stores. As he grew older, he continued to enjoy visiting Texas and he particularly, loved Texas sports. He was an avid Texas Longhorn fan and became a true "Aggie" (Texas A&M University) fan. He and his mother were both Dallas Cowboys fans and they also enjoyed visiting (Jerry World) AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Cedric received his early education in Denver, Colorado. He attended Fulton Elementary, West Jr. High School and in 1992, he graduated from Rangeview High School in Aurora, Colorado.

On June 22, 2002, Cedric married the former, Trina Gregory. They first met at Aurora Central High School. To this union, Jocelynn, Tre'Onna, Cedric, Jr. and DreVonn were born. Trina remembers showing him how to love unconditionally. She reflects that we were each other's "ride or die." We started a family together and raised them together. His children remember Dad as being firm but fun. They remember his cooking as being sometimes good and sometimes NOT. He loved them and enjoyed letting others know how proud he was of them. He participated in and celebrated their accomplishments. He was later blessed with two grandchildren, Leyna and Onyx. Cedric spoiled his grandchildren at every chance. He gave Leyna the nickname "Bug" and Onyx the nickname "fatgirl." He allowed them to make a mess and all they had to do was listen. He was the family protector and they know he will continue to watch over them. He was also the proud father of Daiyaun, Chadae, and twins, Nycya and NyRya, who were also an additional source of joy and pride in his life. They too have many happy and memorable moments of times shared together.

By profession, Cedric was employed as a Fork Lift Driver and a Warehouse worker for Eaton Cooperation. He was hard-working, dedicated, and always willing to perform assigned duties above expectations. He worked well with his co-workers and the management team.
Cedric worked at the Boys and Girls Club. He was a youth football coach for the Aurora Cardinals. He loved being surrounded by young people and was a mentor to them. He believed that being a positive role model would have an everlasting effect on their lives.

Cedric was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys. He loved the special moments with his children watching them play sports, coaching, and spending quality time other family and friends. He enjoyed making others laugh and being the life of the party. He was never shy and had a caring spirit. His closest friends, Douglas Chase, Martin Finley, George McClain, Art Mitchell, and Larry Johnson will miss him being "SOLID," "A Stand-Up Guy" and being "The Life of the Party." They also remember his nickname "Cowboy Smitty." He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this one of kind guy. To know Cedric was to love him.

Cedric Jerome Smith, Sr. departed this life on April 12, 2019, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his mother, Gloria D. Smith; his wife, Trina M. Smith both of Aurora, Colorado; 3 sons, Cedric J. Smith, Jr. of Aurora, Colorado, DreVonn N. Smith of Denver, Colorado, and Daiyaun X. Smith of Aurora, Colorado; 5 daughters, Jocelynn T.D. Gregory, Tre'Onna N. Smith, Chadae Jackson Smith, NyCya Jackson Smith and NyRya Jackson Smith all of Denver, Colorado; his step-father, Arthur "Pop" Watson of Aurora, Colorado; 2 grandchildren, Leyna M. Contreras and Onyx J. Smith both of Aurora, Colorado; his grandmother, Myrtle L. Smith of Hearne, Texas, extended family includes, Daiyaun's siblings, Daiauna Mosley, Daiajah Mays, Daiqua Mosley, Daiyaun Smith; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
