Cecil Ruff

June 27, 1925 — February 2, 2013

Cecil Lee Ruff was born June 29, 1925, in Boswell, Oklahoma to Eddie Ruff Sr., and Cornelia E. Ruff. He was the second of six children born in the family. Cecil was raised in Fort Worth, Texas where he attended the I. M. Terrell High School, frequently on the honor roll, Cecil graduated with honors. In 1943, Cecil enlisted in the United States Army and stationed in Hollandia Dutch New Guinea; in 1945, he was honorably discharged. After his discharge, he resided in Berkley, California until the mid-1950s, and relocated to Denver, Colorado. Over the years, Cecil was a very active member of several civic organizations including the American Legion, and the Elk Mountain Lodge #39. Elected to the highest office as an Elk Mountain Lodge member, Cecil served as the Exalted Ruler, and other key positions. Cecil contributed to multiple causes, both charitable and political. He was an entrepreneur and worked in various occupations in Colorado. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He enjoyed old western movies, and traveling. Cecil constantly expressed deep concern for anyone in need. He was well known throughout the East Denver community for his generosity, and willingness to stand-up for those who were being taken advantage of by others. Cecil made many friends wherever he went and had the unique ability, through his quick wit and humor, to invoke a smile from those around him. Cecil is preceded in death by his wife, Addie M. Ruff; father and mother, Eddie and Cornelia Ruff; three brothers, Walter Ruff, Eddie Ruff Jr., and Clarence Ruff. Cecil Lee Ruff, at the age of 87, departed this life on February 2, 2013, at the Forest Street Compassionate Care Center in Denver, Colorado. Those left the cherish his memory include, two sons, Philip Cecil Ruff (Deborah), Donald F. Ruff; one brother, Bennie "Billy" Johnson (Abbie); one sister, Gloria J. Minner; five grandchildren, an aunt, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and many friends.
