Catherine Lucrecy Russell, was born in Natchez, Mississippi to Isaac and Ethel Mae Nelson. She was raised on the farm that has been in the family since 1926. She was one of eleven children. At an early age, Catherine moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she began a career as an LPN. That job gave her security and the desire to see the world. She often told tales of watching the sunset in Verona, Italy, and how she loved and lived halfway around the world. Catherine married her first husband when she was 18 and from that union came her daughter, Patricia Jones Devereaux. Later in life, she adopted another daughter, Tosha Nelson. To mourn her passing she leaves her two daughters, Patricia and Tosha; five grandchildren, Mya Brooks, Taza Brooks, Qwan Devereaux III, Michael Dockery and Tiara; three great grandchildren, Da’Sean Perry, Treasure Adams, Esaias Devereaux; wishing her safe passage are her five sisters, and two brothers, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, and many friends.
