Castella Wedgeworth

January 4, 1930 — August 25, 2012

Castella Ellen Price was born on January 4, 1930 in Fame, Oklahoma to Fred and Alice Price. Her brothers were Jarone, Pearl and Andrew. Here sisters are Nellie, Anna Marie and Ruth. The family lived in the country and the children had to walk about two miles to school. At that time lunch was only $.25. At the age of nine, the family moved to Eufaula, Oklahoma. Castella worked on the farm and in the cotton fields with her Papa, Mother, Jarone, and Anna Marie. She was good at milking the cows too! Papa nicknamed her "Tiny" because she had a small frame and she was a hard worker. Her Mother was a great cook. She made apple and raisin pies. During dinner she recalls her serving a big pot of pinto beans, big pieces of ham, fresh sweet potatoes, corn, mashed potatoes and corn bread. Most of the vegetables that the family ate were freshly grown from her Mother's garden. Her brother Jarone was about seventeen years old when he drove a school bus to take his sisters to school. Castella started playing basketball as a forward when she was fifteen years old. She remembers playing against a team of boys and beating them. ééé... In 1947, the family moved to Denver, Colorado. Castella attended Manual High School as a junior and graduated in 1948. On July 23, 1948, Castella united in holy matrimony to Walter Wedgeworth Sr. The couple first met in Denver, Colorado when they lived only a block away from each other. From this union they had six children, Timothy, Danny, Clifford, Debra, Walter Jr. and Elbra. She was a devoted wife and mother. She worked very hard so that each of her children graduated from high school and had an opportunity to go to college. Castella was a woman of faith and believed in the Lord. She was a member of Scott United Methodist Church. Castella Ellen Wedgeworth departed this life and in the presence of the Lord on August 25, 2012 in Denver, CO.
