Carolyn Garrett

CAROLYN JEAN GARRETT was born November, 30, 1939, in Carbondale, Illinois the second daughter to Della (Johnson) Lambus and Malchi Garrett and made her transition from this life on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 3:10 p.m. following a short illness. Carolyn grew up in Carbondale around a host of loving relatives. Carolyn received Christ at an early age at Rockhill Missionary Baptist church. Carolyn was a gifted conversationalist concerning her family and upbringing. She also loved talking about her heritage and attending Crispus Attucks school. "Kelly", as she was affectionately known, attended trade school and enjoyed a career as an executive secretary. She loved visiting family in Carbondale, Denver and Detroit. Carolyn lived and raised her family in Detroit prior to moving to Denver in the late 1970's. Carolyn's greatest joy was her children and grandchildren; she would spend hours talking with her family and keeping abreast of family matters. The other love of her life was Anchor of Hope church, where she served faithfully until the time of her death. Carolyn worked tirelessly in many areas of the church including the food and clothing ministries. She also served as Sunday school secretary, greeter, and "doorkeeper" in the Lord's House. Carolyn served in the benevolent ministries, calling and encouraging members to support bereaved families. Carolyn gave generously of herself and her finances. Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother; Della Lambus, son Mark Borders; brother Randolph Garrett and grandson Alexander Farr. Carolyn is survived by her father, Malchi Garrett, Chicago IL, son Terrance Lee Garrett, Nashville, TN, daughter, Teresa Marie Farr, Detroit MI; sister's ; Patricia Garrett-Thomas, Detroit MI; Brenda Brassfield (James), Clarksville, TN; Jeffry Lambus (Gloria), Aurora, CO; Lisa Lambus, Carbondale, IL. Grandchildren: Adam Farr (LaToya) Alburque, Ashley Farr, Detroit; David Williams, Roseville, great-grandaughter, Aris Farr, Albuquerque. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
