Carneice Brown-White

June 22, 1929 — December 31, 2015

Carneice Brown White will forever be known as a great classroom teacher, mother, grandmother and student of life. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee June 22, 1929, and graduated from earth to eternity to receive her heavenly rewards and wings on December 31, 2015. She is the daughter of the late Rev. Alfred Brown and the late Florida Wade Brown of Denver, Colorado. She was a devoted member of Zion Baptist Church in Denver since 1939 after declaring her faith walk with Jesus Christ. She remained a faithful Christian member of Zion Church while growing as a Christian, giving thanks to her Lord and Savior, and sharing her abundant gifts of time, talent and treasure. She served faithfully for over 70 years. When she became disabled and unable to drive, she transferred her membership to Rising Star Baptist Church in May of 2013, which was closer to her home in Aurora. Carneice was fair and generous to all people based on her faith and belief in Jesus Christ. She used her home as a classroom to teach her children Bible and global lessons. Their spiritual and home life was enriched as their mother reached out to other cultures and welcomed guests into her heart and home as a small step toward world peace and universal brotherhood. Her home was always open to youth from around the world as she worked tirelessly to form a special type of Christian Unity to stand up for honesty and integrity at home and elsewhere for all people. As a mother and educator, she believed and worked tirelessly on the principle that all children regardless of their disability, race, color, creed, gender, or economic status, deserved love, respect and an education in a loving environment to help them lead happier lives. For her, this love began at home. Carneice was always deeply grateful for the musical talents of her children and their deep love of music. Watching them grow, develop and perform amazingly on keyboards and harp was the JOY of her heart. Going with them on their travels, attending their performances and preparing their clothes were her greatest loves. She also experienced great times with her talented sister, Ms. Lucy Walker, in theater production and wonderful traveling experiences. Carneice graduated from Manual Training High School in 1946 and received a Bachelor of Science from Central State University in Ohio, where she was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in 1948. She received her Masters of Arts from the University of Denver in 1966. Her career in education spanned 42 years as she dedicated her life to teaching children with Special Needs. She constantly exhibited a unique and innovative teaching style that was tailored to make learning easier for each 'special' child. As a highly trained educator, she was always in harmony with ever changing educational trends, rules, mandates and programs outlined by the Denver Public Schools Administration. She routinely reached out to family members of her students to give them much needed guidance and assurance that all of her students were precious and capable of learning. As many teachers took well deserved summer vacations, Carneice remained busy and committed to her task of soliciting resources and services, which she later used to provide supplementary assistance necessary to teach her 'special' students basic lessons and social graces. Her life is a testament of achievement and survival, which led to much success and numerous local and national awards. She refused to leave the classroom for easier assignments or administrative positions, but remained steadfast and resolved to be an extraordinary classroom teacher to ensure that her students were TAUGHT, LOVED, PROTECTED and RESPECTED. Carneice leaves a rich legacy and will always be remembered with great love for her generosity, thoughtfulness, kindheartedness, and readiness to help others. And, she will always be remembered as an outstanding teacher that achieved so much during her career and we can't forget her alter-ego "MRS GOOBER," presented in short stories and a cook book. Carneice excelled as a Storyteller, Author, Artist, Community and Social Worker, Church Organizer, Speaker, Mentor, Financial Supporter for countless causes, and recipient of numerous awards, which included many '50 Plus Years Awards' from Zion Baptist Church, as she was the second oldest living member in the 50 plus years Zion membership category. Her honors include an 'Outstanding Alumni Award' from the University of Denver, the Juanita Gray Achievement Award from the Warren Ford Branch of the Denver Public Library, and both the Colorado Legends and the Hall of Fame Awards from the Colorado Gospel Music Academy & Hall of Fame. Carneice Brown White quietly departed this life on December 31, 2015, in Denver, Colorado. She leaves a lifetime of accomplishments to guide her children, Drusel White of Aurora, and Cecilia Kay Moore of Aurora, her step-son, Wade Moore (Denise), Los Angeles, California; her three awesome grandsons, Omar A. Belal, Saleh S. Abdou, and Amir S. Abdou all of Aurora, will treasure her love as a devoted grandmother; her sister, Lucy Margaret Walker of Denver will relish their joyful childhood memories; her irresistible smile and true essence will be missed by her nephew, Floyd (Krojai) Walker, Monterey, California; her niece Lynne Walker, Denver; her cousins, Lucinda (Willie) White, Chicago, IL, Geraldine Fair, Chicago, IL, Nola (Nathanial) Owens, Denver, Rev's Jules and Ida Smith, Parker, Colorado; her God-sisters, Dr. Syl Morgan Smith, Denver, and Bellverie Ross, Denver; her extended family, Ronnie Allee Jr., Aurora, Betty Lou Slaughter, Denver, Genice Massey, Aurora, and Jerri Thomas, Denver and a host of other relatives, friends, and colleagues including, Francis E.
