As beautiful as a rose to see, was her life she lived so gracefully. She made things precious by her touch; her selfless love lives on in each of us. The petals of her life fell one by one; each a gift of her heart till there were none. Yet her radiance blooms once again in fields of glory with no end.
Carmella Rebecca Cobb was born on April 14, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to her parents, Mossie Asher Johnson and Sidney Johnson. She was the fifth child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her sisters, Vera, Dora, Blanche, Dorothy, and Sidney. She enjoyed attending Sunday School and later became a teacher.
Carmella attended Wendell Phillips High School where she graduated. While in school, she was a majorette and received certificates in bookkeeping and key punch operation.
On August 20, 1955, Carmella wed, Frank A. Cobb in Chicago, Illinois. To this union, four children, Frank, Jr., Eric, David, and Susan were born. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who was caring and nurturing. They shared many happy and precious moments together. She and Frank had been married 64 years, when he preceded her in death on January 21, 2020.
She was later blessed with eleven grandchildren, Dorhan, Robert, Dion, Brandon, Tiffany, Danielle, David, Jr., Raymond, Ruben, Auvion, and Ryan and nine great grandchildren, who all were her pride and joy. They too have many precious and memorable moments of time spent together.
By profession, Carmella was an Administrative Assistant, employed by Indiana University, the Federal Merit Systems Protection Board and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. She was hard-working, dedicated, and performed all her duties with meticulous detail. She was respected by the management team and all her co-workers. She retired after many years of faithful service.
A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Carmella was a member of St. Phillips Lutheran Church in Gary, Indiana. She believed in the power of prayer and that everyone needed to have the right relationship with the Lord. She had been a member for over 55 years when she relocated to Denver, Colorado.
Carmella was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, exercising, playing computer games, going to church, and singing. She was always helping others. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. To know Carmella was to love her.
She is preceded in her death by her husband, Frank A. Cobb, Sr.; a son, Frank A. Cobb, Jr., her parents, and all her siblings.
Carmella Rebecca Cobb departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on August 13, 2020, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include two sons, Eric R. Cobb of Denver, Colorado and David S. Cobb of Gary, Indiana; one daughter, Susan L. Farmer of Aurora, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
