Carmelita Gabner

The sun rose on the life of Carmelita Harris-Gabner on February 27, 1949, in Independence, Kansas to her parents, Homer Harris and Irene Wilson Harris. She was raised surrounded by her many siblings; all have preceded her in death. Carmelita and her siblings all had nicknames and hers was "Nina". Carmelita received her formal education through the Kansas school system and later she attended College in nearby Coffeyville, Kansas to study music. She met and later married Richard Vivens Jr. they first met in Denver, CO. To this union, two children were born, Jason and Kevin. This marriage was later dissolved. She met and eventually married Michael Gabner and this marriage ended in divorce. Carmelita was employed at Mountain Bell Telephone Company for many years, were she held numerous positions. She also was employed by the Hyatt Hotel and most recently the United States Postal Service. Carmelita's passion and profession was music. She was a great musician, her preference of instrument was the piano but she could also play the pipe organ. She played for three churches in the Denver area, Good Shepherd, Shiloh and Zion Baptist Church; which was her home church. She played every Saturday and Sunday. Her grandson, Akeem would listen to her play songs that would light up the home with the love and praise of God. Jason and his mother kept in contact with each other regardless of the distance between them it did not derail their relationship. He called her regularly from Chicago, even if it was only to ask for a Mother's advice or just to hear her loving voice from a far. She enjoyed Mexican food; as well as BBQ that her son, Kevin would cook. He remembers his mom as loving and devoted. They shared nany happy and precious moments together. She also enjoyed shopping and having a good time with family and friends. Carmelita was fun loving and enjoyed life to the fullest, there are many fond memories of Carmelita throughout the years; she loved being around family, especially her nieces and nephews; she would drive them around town in her Volkswagen listening to music her favorite song was "Do you want to ride in my Mercedes?" Her grandson, Akeem says "he will miss her coming home from work yelling his name, and going out to various dinners, laughing and talking about life's goals." Carmelita had many friends and acquaintances everyone she came in contact with was blessed to have known her. She was the sweetest and kindest person that you would ever want meet and know she always had a laughter about her that made her loveable she will be deeply missed by many. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include, 2 sons, Jason Richard (Glennet) Vivens, Chicago IL and Kevin Shawn Vivens Denver, CO; 4 grandchildren, Zamari, Trejon and Paris Vivens Chicago, IL, Akeem Vivens Denver, CO; 1 great grandchild, Jayden J. Vivens Denver, CO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
