Calvin Curvin, Jr. was born May 15, 1950, in Grand Coulee Dam, Washington, to Calvin Curvin, Sr. and Marinda Johnson Curvin. Calvin grew up enjoying childhood in a town where his creative ambitions and strong character not only gave him the opportunity to become one of a kind in his life's endeavors, but also provided his youth with very special memories. As a young boy, Calvin enjoyed fishing and visiting the Grand Coulee Dam with his friends and family. As a young student, Calvin was charming in his demeanor and actively excelled in his grade school studies. By the age of 12, he began to pursue his early interest in music by teaching himself to play the guitar. Calvin developed his vocals as well and spent some of his spare time working on his free hand artwork, both which carried on throughout most of his life. Calvin attended and graduated from Grand Coulee High School; where he enjoyed playing football. He was the team quarterback. He continued to play music and performed in many venues in and out of the area. So, whether at school or over the road, Calvin shined in his musical interests. As a traveling musician in high school, he received an income which allowed him to establish a career for himself. After high school, Calvin was drafted into the United States Army. He was assigned to the Top Secret Clearance Service Department while stationed in both Fort Gordon, Georgia and in Germany. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged in October of 1973. After his discharge from the U.S. Army, Calvin returned to Spokane, Washington and enrolled in Spokane Community College. He completed courses in business and printing. He continued to pursue his career in music while traveling and performing in many venues. He was the lead singer for the band called "Hip Street." He continued with music throughout the 70's and 80's, playing alongside other well established local and international bands. Calvin did a lot of song writing and vocal recording, making music one of his strongest legacies. In 1978, Calvin relocated to Denver, Colorado. He became employed by the Denver Newspaper Agency and later became the Manager of the Printing Department. He was remembered as being hard-working, dedicated and performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. He remained with the company and retired after 19 years of faithful service. Calvin was the father of three beautiful children, a son, named Calvin Chester Curvin, a daughter, named Nicole Jonique Curvin and another son, Michael Anthony Curvin. He was later blessed with a grandson, named Isaac A. Curvin, who was an additional source of joy and pride in his life. The family shared many happy and precious moments together. In his free time, Calvin joined a local Christian band known as the "Faithful Gospel Singers." They performed in many of the local churches in the Denver area. He enjoyed photography and took courses with Harcourt Learning Direct, earning certification in January of 2002. He leaves a void that can never be filled and a legacy to be cherished. Calvin Curvin, Jr. departed this life on March 23, 2016, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory include three children, Calvin Chester Curvin, Nicole J. Curvin, and Michael A. Curvin; one grandson, Isaac A. Curvin; two sisters; two brothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
