Burney Humphrey

Burney C. Humphrey was born on December 7, 1959, in Denver, Colorado to his parents, Arthur C. Humphrey and Arlitra Steele-Humphrey. He was the sixth child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his siblings, Arlian, Charlie, Darryl, Stephanie, Patricia, Cecelia, and Marilyn Sue. They remember him loving to work with his hands, and participated in track and field. While he was young, he traveled to California and won a gold medal in track and field. Burney completed his formal education in the Denver Public School District, and graduated from East High School. Burney met Karen Collins in the mid 1980's, and on October 20, 1986, they were married. To this union, LaKisha, Sharyce, and Burney, Jr. were born. Through this relationship, he also became the father of Michelle Collins. Later, Burney was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Taijon, Syriana, Ka'Vyell, Elexis, Ka'Niya, Niesha, Kimoni, Alonzo, and Tahir. They enjoyed spending time with their grandfather and loved him dearly. LaKisha and Sharyce remember Burney allowing them to go to his job at the Colorado State Patrol Academy to visit. They helped him cook and prepare meals for the state troopers in training. After serving the troopers, they enjoyed hanging out around the building going to the gym to play basketball, going to the movies, and talking to the troops walking around. After spending time hanging out, they would ride bikes through the lot as fast as they could until it was time to go home. By profession, Burney was a Head Chef, for the Colorado State Patrol, and later, became a janitor for Adventura Rehabilitation Center in Parker, Colorado. He was committed to his co-workers, and worked with the spirit of excellence. In his free time, Burney enjoyed listening to music and going to concerts. He loved spending time with is best friend and father, Arthur, prior to his passing. His family and friends will remember him as the kind and gentle man he was. Burney was preceded in death by his son, Burney Humphrey, Jr., his parents, Arthur C. and Arlitra Humphrey; his siblings, Arlian Fox, and Charlie Fox. Burney C. Humphrey departed this life on September 6, 2016, to the embrace of the Lord in Parker, Colorado. He leaves to cherish his memories his children, LaKisha Humphrey, Sharyce Humphrey; his siblings, Darryl Humphrey, Patricia Fox, Cecelia Burton, Marilyn Fox, Stephanie Fox; 9 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
