Blenda Jamecia Baty was born on June 14, 1956, in Denver, Colorado to her parents, Martha M Jordan and James Banks. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Mack Rollins. She had one brother, Leerollins and a sister, Yolanda. As a child, she loved being surrounded by her cousins and other family members. She received her early education in Denver where she graduated from Manual High School in 1974. While in school, she ran track, tried out for tennis, and sang in the choir her sophomore through her senior years in school. She was an honor roll student and a member of the Honor's Society. On June 12, 1976, Blenda united in holy matrimony to Alfred Baty. They first met while attending a birthday party. They enjoyed traveling, going on tours, fishing and cooking. Their pet dogs, Sir and Badness were part of the family and were deeply loved. Blenda loved children; she cared for many of her nieces and nephews and was instrumental in helping to raise them. Her great nephew, Cemaj, was the love of her life. She raised him until he was five. She then relocated to Virginia to be close to him and her niece, Jamecia, and her great nieces. She also shared a closeness with her niece, Shaquita, and her nephew, Mac. To Keirra, Kylah, Cemaj, Demarie, Darell, Ja'dore and Elise, Blenda was "Big Mamma." She loved each one of them unconditionally. She loved telling them about family history and taking pictures. They all shared many happy and precious moments together. Blenda worked at Stapleton Airport in Custodial Services for many years. She was dependable, dedicated and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence. She enjoyed the interaction with the traveling public and her co-workers. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Blenda was a member of True Vine Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Dr. Irvin D. Melvin and Evangelist Shearline V. Melvin in Newport News, Virginia. She volunteered for the Denver Weekly News, Denver Safe Night, The Body of Christ News, and many other organizations that provided for and nurtured the well-being of children, whether chaperoning to the movies and basketball games, or providing food baskets, Blenda was a willing worker and supporter. Blenda was fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she continued to enjoy traveling, photography, writing short stories and poems, and helping non-profit organizations with grant writing. Her closest friends, Vinita Tyler Richardson, and Stanley Jones, who have been friends for most of her life, will miss the camaraderie they all shared and the fact that she was true and trusted friend. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Blenda was to love her. Blenda Jamecia Baty departed this life on January 15, 2017, in Hampton, Virginia. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her husband, Alfred H.
