Barclay Weekes

Barclay Henderson Weekes was born on December 10, 1945, to Helena Weekes and Reginald Harewood in Workhall, St. Phillip Barbados. He had four brothers and five sisters. He received his primary and secondary education In St. Philip Parish, Barbados, and completing high school in 1964.

As a child Barclay was very close to his mother. She was a Christian woman who raised her children in the church, teaching them to serve the Lord. He enjoyed going to church and running errands with his mother. Holy Trinity Church was where he received his Christian education. He sang in the choir as well as served as an Altar Boy.

His family was large and loving. All of his siblings had a role to play in helping their mother around the house. Barclay loved to help in the kitchen. He became a gifted cook. His skills in the kitchen served as his lifetime occupation.

On December 16, 1969, Barclay married the love of his life, Lydia Carrington at Holy Trinity Church in St. Philip. To this union came two sons, Pedro and Deon Weekes. He was a traditional man who believed a women's place was in the home and that a man must provide for his family. He was a good provider who praised his wife and enjoyed the time he spent with his children.

In the early 80's, Barclay and Lydia moved from St. Philip Barbados to New York, to seek new opportunities and to be with his brother. The cultural difference was a bit overwhelming and in 1981, upon the invitation of Lydia's sister, the family moved to Denver, Colorado to a safer, slower lifestyle. They stay with her until they were able to establish roots in their new community.

Barclay became a Dietary Cook for Garden Terrace Center of Excellence. Over the years he cooked for Berkley Manor and Golden Care Centers. He took pride in his job and was known for the wonderful meals that he prepared.

One of the things that Barclay enjoyed most was a good meal. When he went out to dinner, he would critique the food, identifying ingredients, correct propositions and presentation. He appreciated the simple things in life. Going for a ride with the family, packing a lunch to enjoy in the park, were activities near and dear to him. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who never missed an opportunity to tell his family that he loved them.

A man of love, humor, hospitality, and integrity. Barclay loved playing dominoes with family and friends. He was very competitive, and he would offer a revenge challenge if he lost. He seldom missed an episode of Judge Judy. He felt she was strong in her convictions and fair in her deliberation. Clint Eastwood was his favorite cowboy and he looked forward to a good western movie or an action-packed wrestling match. He was a football fan, who had little patience with losing. Barclay had a great sense of humor, known as a jokester, and he loved to have a good time.

Barclay past from labor to reward on June 21, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rawle, Colbert, and Livingston Weekes; sisters, Thelma and Pearl Weekes. Left to cherish his memory, his wife, Lydia Weekes; sons, Jerome Pearce, Pedro, and Deon Weekes; grandchildren, Maureen and Adrian Pearce, Deyona, Areiah and Amarie Weekes; one great grandchild, brother, Steadman Weekes; sister; Joyce and Verna Weekes, Lucille Brath Waite; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loyal friends.
