Barbara E. Pride was born on April 19, 1932 in Denver, Colorado to Margaret Alberta Price. She was reared by her mother and step-father William Melvin Turner As a child Barbara grew up surrounded by family and enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her brother Norman Coleman. She received her formal education through the Denver Public School System.
Barbara had many gifts and skills. At an early age she discovered her gift of singing..As a young woman, she cultivated and mastered her love for singing in Church choirs and listening to music.
As a young adult, she worked as a background singer with jazz and rhythm and blues musical groups. Her love for singing was evident as she was awarded opportunities to sing along side many artists including: Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Charles Brown, Sara Vaughn and Nancy Wilson to name a few. While pursuing her music career, Barbara began having children and focused her maternal energies on raising a family.
As a Mother, Barbara worked hard to care for her children and diligently made sure the family was well taken care of. Mother Pride was a survivor and endured many occupational changes. One of her most proud accomplishments was, employment with the Denver Public Schools as a Paraprofessional at Smith Elementary School .
Barbara met and married Curtis Pride Sr.- an honorable soldier of the U.S. Marine Corps. For Fifty years they enjoyed each other and raised six beautiful children .
Barbara always displayed kindness towards others. She had a beautiful smile and humble spirit. Her faith in God was evident and she received Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior as a young adult. She devoted her time to serving and attending Church on a regular basis. With this devotion, Barbara believed in the power of God and committed her life to prayer and worship in various Congregations and Local Churches.
Those preceding her in death, her husband of fifty years Curtis Pride S.; r both her parents , Margaret Alberta Price and William Melvin Turner ; and her son, Daryl Ray.
Barbara departed this life to the loving embrace of the Lord on Sunday January 19, 2020. Those left to cherish her memories and mourn her departure include her beloved children, Sandra Renee Johnson, Allen (Vera) Ray of Denver; Keith (Pat) Ray of Aurora; Margo Carter of Denver and Curtis Pride Jr. of Denver. She also leaves a host of grand-children, great grand-children; nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous additional family members and friends.
