Barbara Jean O'Donnell was born on January 15, 1941, in Omaha, Nebraska to her parents, Albert Price, and Lettie B. Henry Price. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Johnny, Darryl, and her sisters, Rita and Billie. As a child, she enjoyed sitting on her clothes and spinning 45's on her record player. She and her mother enjoyed shopping together. She also shared a special relationship with her aunts, who spoiled her.
The family eventually relocated to Denver, Colorado and Barbara graduated from Manual High School in 1959. She later met Earl O'Donnell and to this union, three children, Debra, Leslie, and Tracy were born. She was the proud mother of a son named Dereck. Dereck preceded her in death. Her children remember their mother as being a good provider, an excellent cook, especially Mexican and Chinese dishes. She was just an all-around "Great Woman."
She was later blessed nine grandchildren, Dekia, Kevin, Denika, Brandie, Ventika, Jerianne, Deremiah, Love, and ten great-grandchildren, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "Grandmother, or Gran-Gran" and fondly remember her cooking for them and giving them folded money and sharing stories which gave them the wisdom and understanding that could only come from a grandmother. She passed her green chili and refried been recipes to them.
By profession, Barbara was employed as the Manager of Laundry and Valet Services for the Hilton Hotel. She was stern but always fair. She was respected by her staff and other management team members. She was with the company for 35 years when she retired.
Barbara had been a member of the Red Shield/Salvation Army for over 10 years. She truly enjoyed the fellowship shared with her church family.
Barbara was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed listening to music, shopping, cooking, gardening, and spending quality time with family and friends. She also enjoyed visiting the "Hills" and having a cold Budweiser. Her closest friend, Dorris will miss the special time they shared together. She loved Christmas and talking about Santa. Her favorite quote was "As God Is My Witness." She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind woman who had a generous heart and spoke with honesty. To know Barbara was to love her.
She is preceded in death by a son, Dereck Henderson; her parents, all her siblings; and a grandson, Justin.
Barbara Jean O'Donnell departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on November 24, 2018, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory include 3 daughters, Debra L. O'Donnell-Fletcher, Leslie A. O'Donnell-Ratcliff, and Tracy J. O'Donnell all of Denver, Colorado; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and many friends.
