Aron Sims

Aron Lordell Sims, Sr. was born on March 1, 1934, in Marvel, Arkansas to his parents, Marshall Sims and Annie Mae Luckydue Sims. He was the youngest of two children born to this union; his sisters name was Bertha Lee McGee (Sims). He received his early and secondary education in Arkansas where he graduated from Holly Grove High School. His friend William T. Lowery remembers, "in grade school Aron would always be the first to be at blackboard to work out the math problems and ten out of ten times he would have the answers correct." Aron was known as a "pretty boy" who spent most of his summers in Chicago.

On February 26, 1954, Aron united in holy matrimony to Essie Beatrice Miller in Council Bluff Iowa. He initially met her at a school dance and would later go on to state, "I'm going to marry that gal." To this union, Lawrence Edward, Sharon Marie, Karl Ivas, Myron Ray, Aron Lordell Jr., Anthony Wordell, Monica Lynn, James Lacey, and Marshall Eugene were born.

Aron was employed by the City of Omaha and Cudahy Meat Packing Plant, in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon relocating to Denver, Colorado, he continued to work for Cudahy Meat Packing Plant until the plant closed. He took a job at Gate’s Rubber Company, six weeks in to the job, he stated, "Smelling rubber was not for me." So, he obtained employment at Safeway's meat warehouse until the department closed and went on to work for Denver Public Schools as a bus driver and where he retired. When he was assigned a new route as a driver, Aron enjoyed telling the story of children who would ask him, "Mr. Bus Driver are you going to get us lost? He would reply if I do, we will be lost together." He is remembered by many of his friends and college for being a road map.

Church witnesses at End Time Christian Center, recall the testimony that Aron accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. His granddaughter Jan'Na, recalls a visit with Aron during a chemotherapy treatment where Aron with tears in his eye's stated, "The Lord has always looked out for me." Aron joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He regularly volunteered for the church where he aided with serving food or passing out clothing to those in need.

Aron loved baseball (left-field) with BB King until BB went in to the music industry. Aron never missed a concert. He was an avid blues fan; he would listen to KYVO from 3 p.m. Friday until 7:30 Sunday night. Aron was on many bowling teams (at the same); to his bowling buddies he was known as the Buzzard. Sims was the only one anyone had ever seen brake his leg on the lane and get up and continue to bowl. Bowling also afford him and his wife to travel. Aron along with his wife traveled to all fifty states in his son’s blue rag top Fiat.

Aron never meet a stranger, on the job if any of his friends got in a bad situation, he would open our home to them. To the stranger he brought them home like stray puppies and hide them in the basement; and tell Essie we need to take care of them until they get on their feet.

Daddy never had a brother, but he was afforded the opportunity to appoint George Lane as his Little Big Brother. His friend circle was tight but right. WT Lowery from his childhood. John Boyd, James Boyd, his cousins. Albright Johnson, Charles Bowes, Ted Murphy, John Station, Oscar Morgan, Lovie Gray Lester Tinnin, Harold Butler,the 24th street clan. Ivory Bryant, Al Eubank, Gene Redwine, Ted Hurst, and Harold Montgomery. Friends forever.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Annie Mae Sims; sister Bertha Lee McGee his wife Essie Beatrice Sims; a son Aron L. Sims Jr; grandson, Lawrence E. Sims Jr., Richard E. Sims; and a great grandson Ptomely Schwaly.

Aron L Sims, Sr. departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on April 12, 2019, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include 6 sons, Lawrence E. (Valerie) Sims, Sr., Karl I. Sims both of Aurora, Colorado, Myron R. Sims of Denver, Colorado, Anthony W. Sims of Aurora, Colorado, James L (Arla) Sims of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Marshall E. Sims of Aurora, Colorado; 2 daughters, Sharon M. Bradstreet of Vallejo, California and Monica L. (Pastor Malcolm) Sims Guss of Aurora, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
