Ariel Mariah Berryman was born on October 29, 1987 in Denver Colorado, first and only daughter to Jim and Teresa. After graduating from University of Colorado Denver, she received her Master's degree in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from Portland State University. She returned to Colorado, working at the University of Colorado Denver in Human Resources. Ariel's life was taken in an automobile accident on Monday, October 10, 2016; she was 28 years old. But those are just facts, and do not do justice to Ariel's true nature. Ariel came into our lives like a comet, blazing across the sky, trailing light and joy behind her, making the lives of those she touched brighter for her presence. While with us for all too short a time, her kindness, goodwill, and outpouring of joy is remembered by all who knew her, and her absence felt acutely by her family and friends. Ariel ardently believed in what she felt was morally right; innately she followed her true-north star, and she connected deeply with people she met wherever her travels took her. Passionate about making everyone around her feel special, it didn't matter if she'd known you for years or if you were a stranger, nor how much money you had or where you came from. She wanted, more than anything, for those she met to realize their beauty, both inside and out, and to be the very best person they could be. She wanted you to shine. Ariel was welcoming to all her friends, new and old, and was quite famous for bringing home strays. Whether it was a friend who needed a place of refuge, someone far from home who needed a home cooked meal, or someone of the four-legged variety who needed help finding a forever home, she would open her life and welcome all with a fierce hug, a bright smile. Ariel embodied kindness and gratitude, and filled people with the incredible joy of life that she felt. While faced with adversity and challenging times, she didn't let negative experiences keep her from extending a hand to those who stumbled, support to those who sought it, and love to those who needed it. The world is a better place and we are better people for having had her in our lives, to have shined in her light. When you think of Ariel, remember her light and share it. She would want you to do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in her name. Long live her light that comes down and through and onto all of us. Contributions in memory of Ariel may be made to the Denver Dumb Friends League (www.ddfl.org) or to a charity of your choice honoring Ariel's compassion for other people and animals.
