Anthony Smith, Sr.

February 15, 1957 — May 30, 2014

Anthony Wayne Smith, Sr. was born on February 15, 1957, in Denver, Colorado to his parents, Henry Edward Smith and Joyce Maxine Walker Smith. He was the first child born in the family. He was surrounded by his brothers, Edward, Ronnie and his sisters, Renee, Diane, and Rhonda. As a child, he was active as a boy scout, he played the drums at the Red Shield Community Center, and he also traveled around the state with the drum corp. He loved to dance, shoot pool, go to the movies and play basketball. A favorite memory was that of Anthony and his sibling making a pool table so that could practice. It was that practice that allowed them to win many tournaments. A crowning moment for Anthony was to accept an award on behalf of Center when he was only twelve years old. He also received awards and honors from Troop #319 of the Boy Scouts. Anthony received his formal education in Denver, where he graduated from Manual High School in 1975. He was the proud father of a son named Anthony Wayne Smith, Jr. They shared many happy and memorable moments together. He was later blessed with two grandchildren, Aalyana and Aliyah. By profession, Anthony worked as a Carpenter, Shipping and Receiving Handler and a Painter. Wherever employed, he was hard-working, dedicated and performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. Anthony attended Campbell Chapel AME Church for a number of years. His closest friend, Ezell and Brother-In-Law, enjoyed sitting on the family's front porch talking and watching people as they pass by. They also enjoyed watching movies together. Tony also enjoyed the Mardi Gras and collecting the beads and following the Denver Broncos. Anthony will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Tony was to love him. Anthony Wayne Smith, Sr. departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on June 1, 2014, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his mother, Joyce M. Smith; his son, Anthony Smith, Jr. both of Denver; his stepdaughter, Kelisha Smith of Denver; his brother, Ronnie Smith of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Renee R. (Curtiss) Mallory, Diane E.
