Annie Pearl Boyd-Jenkins was born on February 21, 1923 to the parents Eugene and Velma Lee Boyd in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. At a very young age the family moved from Sapulpa to Coffeyville Kansas where she and her siblings were raised. Annie was the oldest of nine children. Her siblings Eakin Eugene (Deceased), Rosie-Lee (Deceased), Ernestine, Freddie-Lee (Deceased), Floyd (Deceased), Gloria-Dean, Earl-Franklin (Deceased), and Hazel-Marie. Although she lost her father at the age of 15, she was determined to graduate from High School, which she did from Phil Kindley High School. This and many other challenges she faced in life shaped her to become a strong, independent and determined woman. After graduating High School, she began working at Fred Harvey Restaurants (a job she spoke of often). On May 6, 1942, she married Samuel Ellis Jenkins (Deceased) and after a few years they started a family. Their children are Sharon, Dianna, Janice, Samuel (Jerry), Wayne and the Twins (Deceased). They were married for 36 years until his death in October 1978. Upon her husband's joining the US Army, she too accepted the assignment as a military wife (with the children in tow). Wherever he received an assignment, if possible she would join him with the family. When they left their home in Kansas City, Kansas they traveled to Ft Leonard Wood Missouri, Ft Carson, Colorado, Darmstadt Germany, Ft. Lee Virginia, Baumholder Germany, Ft Campbell, Kentucky, when he was assigned to Vietnam, he brought the family back to Colorado where they stayed until he retired. By profession, she became a domestic engineer. She taught and gave assignments to her children such as ironing, cooking and cleaning. Her hobbies were cake decorating, crocheting, gardening, jewelry making, and upholstery. Loving to read she purchased and read many books. In her younger days, she did many of her own home repairs. Annie also loved traveling visiting Trinidad, Hawaii, and New York visiting family and friends. She especially enjoyed a wide variety of music, from Caribbean, Jazz, and Gospel. Some of her favorite musicians were Harry Belafonte, Roy Ayers and Mahalia Jackson. Her favorite actor was Sidney Poitier. Although she was a strict disciplinarian, she loved laughter. She also loved her grandchildren David Christopher Jenkins (Deceased), Philip Swanson, and Kendra Swanson and was instrumental in caring for them. Annie practiced inter-faith. She believed in God. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm. Her favorite hymns are "Amazing Grace" and "When I have done the best I can". Annie is survived by three daughters Sharon Elaine Swanson, Dianna Laurice Jenkins, Janice Loraine (Shannon) Carter, two sons, Samuel Jerome (Jill) Jenkins, Wayne Thomas Jenkins, three sisters, Ernestine, Gloria-Dean, Hazel-Marie, two grandchildren, Philip Eugene Swanson, and Kendra Lee-Ann Swanson, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family friends and her cat, Buttons. She will be missed.
