The life of Annie Lou Gordon, began when she blessed her parents Reuben W. Miller Sr. and Anna V. Miller with her birth on Monday, June 27, 1930, in Amarillo, Texas. Annie was raised by her grandparents George and Lucinda (whom she affectionately called, "Mama Cindy") Anderson. Annie received her primary education in Seguin, Texas. Even at a young age, Annie was hardworking, fun-loving, independent and nurturing. Annie took her role as the oldest child to heart, and fondly cared for her younger brothers and sisters. In 1942, the Miller family moved to Denver, Colorado where Annie attended Cole Junior High School, graduating from Manual High School in 1948. After high school, Annie married Londell C. Jones, Sr. To this union, one bouncing baby boy, Londell C. Jones, Jr. was born. She later married Robert H. Gordon, to this union, two precious girls, Rosland Evonne, and Yvette Rochelle were born. Annie always had compassion for caring for others. Her desire to help others, led her to the nursing profession. She began her illustrious nursing career at General Rose Memorial Hospital, now known as Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Annie obtained additional formal training and was elevated to a Surgical Technician and later served in the role of Patient Companion. Annie's career at Rose Hospital spanned more than 50 plus years. Upon retirement from Rose Hospital, Annie's compassion led her to work at Little Saints Daycare Center in the former Holly Shopping Center, where she could share her love for children daily. Annie loved working with the children and often smiled when sharing how much tissue she used to keep their noses and hands clean. Annie accepted the Lord and was baptized at a young age. She joined Central Baptist Church in 1943 under the Pastoral leadership of Rev. Milton King Curry, Sr. During Annie's 66 years at Central she had the privilege to serve under the leadership of 3 ministers ~ Rev. M K. Curry; Rev. Dr. W. O. Mays, Sr. and Rev. W. D. Simmons. Annie served in various ministries to include the RCR Missionary Circle and the Thera Pompeii Ministry. In 2009, Annie left Central to become a founding member of New Relationship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W. D. Simmons. In 2017, Annie reunited with her home church, Central Baptist under the leadership of Rev. Rodney G. Perry, Sr. Annie was also involved in the community as a member of the Northeast Denver Grandparents Association, the Delta Mothers, and was a longtime member of the Candlelight Social Club, where she held many offices to include President. Annie was a fun-loving woman who thoroughly enjoyed life ~ from cheering on her beloved Denver Broncos or her grandson, Jarret, and great-grandson, Jason as they played little league and high school football. Annie supported her family members in all their endeavors. Annie really liked to travel. Some of her favorite trips include, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Louisiana, and Atlanta. Annie had a passion for fashion and loved to go shopping. She was very meticulous about her appearance and often matched her clothing from head to toe. Annie served as an exquisite interior decorator for her home to entertain friends, but most importantly her family. Annie cherished her family and made every moment with each of them memorable. Holidays were particularly important ~ from decorating based on the holiday, to ensuring that everyone received the Christmas and birthday gifts that they dreamed of. Family dinners were perfectly executed to include beautiful tablecloths, taper candles, and a delicious meal. Annie loved jazz and was often the background music when others were around or by herself. Annie was extremely independent, hard-working, determined, and iron-willed. She would work up to four jobs at a time to make sure her children and grandchildren did not go without. Although Annie loved deeply, she was feisty, did not bite her tongue, and told you exactly what was on her mind. There will never be another Annie Lou Gordon. To know her, was to love her. Annie loved to have her family around and Easter morning, April 16, 2017 was no exception. Annie's grandson, Jarret helped to prepare her for her most important trip … the trip to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He began by reading Psalms 86 ~ "Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me" ~ he then helped her pack her bag by reading James 3 ~ "And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace" and as she closed her bag, preparing to leave he read ~ Revelation 18 ~ "And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven". At 9:30 a.m. Annie reached for the Father's hand and bid the cares of this world farewell. Annie was preceded in death by her Grandparents, George and Lucinda Anderson, her parents, Rueben and Anna Miller, her stepmother, Zelma Miller; her brother, Walter R. Miller and two sisters ~ Villa L. Jones and Ruby Miller, her daughter-in-law, Sandra Jones, one niece, Zabra Miller-Mason; three nephews, Ronnie, Tommie and Jerry Jones.
