Annie Lee Calhoun Boatwright was born on December 5, 1935 in Palestine, Texas to her parents David Lee and Modene Calhoun. She was the second oldest of five children born in the family. She had two brothers, John L (deceased) and David Lee, Jr. (deceased) and two sisters, Gloria Calhoun (deceased) and Alice Mae Calhoun Wilson (deceased). Annie attended Henry High School in Elkhart, Texas, where she met her lifelong friend Willie Nathaniel. She and Willie moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and worked together at St. Francis Hospital. Growing up, Annie had the tasks of gathering the fresh eggs every morning before school. She and her siblings would walk four miles (to and from) school using syrup buckets to hold their small lunches. Annie's lifelong friend Willie introduced her to George Boatwright Jr. who later became her husband on April 12, 1962 in Fort Carson, CO. Four children were born to this union, Gregory A. Boatwright, Sandra N. Boatwright-Carlson, Colette M. Boatwright-Jones and Lisa A. Boatwright-Simpson. As a soldier's wife, Annie enjoyed traveling across Europe with her family before returning to the United States to begin a civilian life. After her husband passed in 1981, Annie attended Arapahoe Community College in Denver, CO where she received her certificate and license to be a child care provider in her home. Not only did she contract out her services but she also provided care to all of her grandchildren. All of her grandchildren nicknamed her "Granny Annie" and even the other children who attended her daycare center would also call her by that name. Annie became a dedicated, baptized Jehovah's Witness on May 2, 1970, and she enjoyed having religious discussions with anyone she encountered. She remained a dedicated and faithful servant until her passing. She enjoyed talking on the phone weekly to her sisters and brothers, playing the piano, board games with her children and grandchildren and having dominoes, bid whiz & pinochle tournaments with her friends. She was very competitive and highly spirited. Besides enjoying her bible study she greatly enjoyed reading romantic novels when she had the time. Annie was known to all as a kind, very generous, funny and smart mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was the type of person who would tell you the truth about yourself even if you didn't want to hear it. Annie Lee Boatwright departed this life on January 23, 2017, in Denver, Colorado. She is survived by her children: Gregory (Diane) Boatwright (Tucker, GA), Sandra Carlson, Colette Jones and Lisa Simpson (Aurora & Denver, CO).
