Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone; those we love can never be more than a thought apart; for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart. Annette Jean Gayles was born on January 14, 1947, to Ernie Adams and Gladys Lee Williams Gayles, in Portland, Oregon. She was the oldest of eight children. She was fearless in her pursuit of life. She taught her brothers how to climb trees, how to fight and generally how to keep things interesting. Annette's family moved to Colorado when she was 3 years old. She attended Westwood Elementary, Cole Junior High and was a proud 1965, graduate of Manual High School. After high school, Annette became employed by Shwayder Brother's, where Samsonite Luggage was manufactured. On December 31, 1965, Annette married her high school sweetheart, Frederick D. Gayles. To this union, two sons, Frederick Jr., and Michael were born. She was a loving mother, who taught her sons to take care of each other. She insisted on them being loyal, hard-working and striving for excellence. She checked their homework, and went to their games as their biggest cheerleader. She was a source of encouragement for her sons making sure that they reach high and never to settle for second. Annette was fun loving. She was competitive and enjoyed playing jokes on her siblings, sons. and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were a source of joy to her. Her love of children was extended into a career. She worked at Watch Care Daycare Center, Kid Care and at the time of her death, she was employed at Enrichment Cottage & Development Center. She also employed at Smith Elementary, working with children with special needs. She found great joy in molding young minds. She saw the potential in the children and found ways to help them grow into their gifts. Being married for over 50 years, Annette and Fred had a special bond. They could anticipate each other's needs and they had developed a loving relationship. Through the good times and times of challenge they faced life as partners. They enjoyed being around family, playing cards and occasionally dancing the Cha-Cha. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. As a woman of faith, Annette was raised in a home where the principals of being a Jehovah's Witness were taught. She was baptized on July 6, 2008.
