January 8, 1929 - May 10, 2020

On January 8, 1929, Annie Lee was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Thomas and Annie Ruth McCoy. She was the oldest of 15 children born into a close and loving family. Annie helped her mother with each of her siblings and cherished her role as big sister. She received her primary and secondary education in Montgomery, Alabama, and following high school Annie attended Alabama State College. She studied to be a Practical Nurse.

in 1960, Annie was looking for a new start. Her sister Laura and brother-in-law, Peter Davis, invited Annie to come to Lincoln, Nebraska. Peter was stationed at Lincoln Air Force Base. Annie left Montgomery with her three kids, Larry, Alvin, and Rosa, looking for a better life for herself and her children. She was grateful for the opportunity to change her future. Annie worked hard and was able to move out on her own and make a home for her family. Her son Larry remembered all of the places that they lived during those early days and how she made each one feel like home.

Peter introduced Annie to one of his friends and colleagues, Enoch Williams, They began a courtship that ended in marriage. To this union two children were born, Cassandra Denise and Christopher Dunbar. Annie and Enoch extended an invitation to Annie's sister Hazel, to move to Lincoln. Hazel, like Annie, was looking to change her circumstances, with a little help from her big sister. Enoch introduced Hazel to Gene Wills another young Airmen and they too were married and went off to start their life together. Annie continued to look out for her siblings throughout their lives.

Enoch and Annie relocated to Denver, Colorado, in 1967. Enoch was assigned to Lowry Air Force Base. They felt that they could put down roots in Denver. Annie worked for a few years at several hospitals before starting at St. Joseph's Hospital as a Food Service Supervisor. She worked there for almost 20 years. St. Joseph's is where she met her best friend, Jeri Bass. Annie and Jeri's friendship flourish for 50 years as Jeri became more like family.

Annie gave her life to Christ at age 15. Upon moving to Denver, she joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She was a faithful Mother of the Church. She was a loving and compassionate encourager. Annie was generous and freely shared her wisdom. Reading the Bible, prayer, worship and gospel music gave Annie a great deal of joy. Each time her son Larry, would visit her, they would always end their visits in prayer. And as a protective mother, she would always say "don't give nobody a ride".

On Mother's Day, May 10, 2020, Annie departed this life to reside with the Lord for eternity. She was 91 years young. She set the bar high for us and we are truly thankful and blessed. Annie was proceeded in death by her husband Enoch Williams, parents Thomas and Annie Ruth (Madea) McCoy; her brothers Thomas Jr. (Sonny Boy) Joe Lewis, Jerry, Jimmy, Tim and William (Jack) McCoy; sisters Laura Davis and Helen Deramus.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Larry (Devyn) Nettingham, Alvin Nettingham and Christopher (Angela) Williams, daughters Rosa (Michael) Kaley and Cassandra (Mel) Dowdell; siblings Dorothy Ruth Guthrie, Savanah (Gus) Hampton, Betty Jo Hodrick, Hazel (Gene) Wills, Christine McCoy and Margaret Blevins, in-laws Peter Davis, Essie Mae and Eva Mae McCoy; grandchildren Tonya Little-Gilford, Taneshia Nettingham, Vanessa Nettingham, Derek Nettingham, Brandon Williams, Amorette Claiborne, Angeles Williams, Jaden Williams and Alise Kaley. Great and great great grandchildren, best friend Jeri Bass, a host of nieces, nephews' other relatives and loyal friends.
