Alma Rucker was born on April 6, 1929 in Caldwell Texas, to Virgil and Ethel Jefferson. She was the oldest of three children. Alma grew up in a loving family with her sister Rutha Mae and brother Charles. Alma was raised in Dallas, TX where she received her formal education. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Alma's family moved to Denver when she was 20 years old. She was un-impressed with Denver, feeling that it was a "One Horse Town" with little excitement. She soon changed her mind when she discovered the Five Points neighborhood. Before she was old enough to go into the Rossonian Hotel. She would look through the window, hoping to get a glimpse of some of the star attractions like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and others. After coming of age, one of her favorite spots was the Porters and Waiters Club. She was a person who never met a stranger. Alma worked as a Waitress/Cashier at Buster's Bar B Q, and later at Big Chef's. She worked various jobs serving others. She worked as a Teachers Aid, for the Denver Public Schools, at Corey Elementary and retired from that position. Alma was a woman of God. She was member of The Church In The City, and she enjoyed attending Bible Study. She never learned to drive an automobile. However, that never stopped her from going wherever she wanted to go. She utilized public transportation as well as her loved to walk. She enjoyed going to the movies, loved a parade, and concerts in the park. She was a great cook, who loved to share a meal. Her friends and family looked forward to her excellent fried chicken among other wonderful dishes. Family was Alma's priority. Her six children, Bobbie, Patricia, Annette, Janice, Wendell and Michael, were the joy of her life. She was a loving, caring and giving mother who loved her children unconditionally. Love ones who proceeded her in death include her parents Virgil and Ethel Jefferson, her brother Charles Jefferson, her daughter Janice Benton, two sons Wendell Rucker and Michael Vincent, her grandson Terrence Bentley, and son-in-law, CC Woods The Lord opened his loving arms and received Alma Rucker, on January 22, 2018. Left to cherish her memory include her daughters Bobbie Rucker Woods, Patricia Rucker and Annette Rucker, Daughter-in-law LaShon Carter, seven grandchildren, Terrence Bentley II, Vincent Rucker, Delmar Rucker, Amber Taylor, Nickole Rucker Teel, Courtney Brisco and Brianna Lobnitz; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends Death is the last chapter in time, but the first chapter in eternity. Rest in Peace Until We Meet Again.
