Alice Cookes-Aikens

Alice Yvone Aikens was called home to be with her Lord Monday, October 12, 2015. Married to Johnny Aikens, III for 20 years, she relocated to Aurora, CO. in 1999. She was retired from the Social Security Administration at the time of her death. Born Alice Yvone Watson August 2, 1957 in Odessa, Texas, the third child of three born to Deloris Randle and Vernell Watson, Alice was always known as a loving and caring woman. She graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque, NM and attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico and the University New Mexico. She loved shopping, caring for family and the Dallas Cowboys. Some of Alice's greatest accomplishments was as a track star with the Duke City Dashers. Her New Mexico records in the 100 and 200 yard dash will never be broken because all track events now use the metric system. She was invited to the 1972 Olympics Trails in Montreal, Canada but failed to make the team. After graduating from college Alice joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Fort Hood, TX and Kirtland AFB, NM Her first marriage produced two children, Ashley and Alyson Cookes. Her current marriage produced one child, Alysha Aikens. Alice was a doting grandmother to Joseph , Cookes-Campbell and Xavian Fuller. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernell Watson and Deloris Randle, Haywood Randle (her stepfather ) and her sister Carolyn Dove. Alice is survived by her husband, John, three children, two grandchildren, one brother, Darnell Watson, her special first cousin, loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends and neighbors.
