Alexander Duncan was born on May 25, 1910, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born to the union of William Duncan and Mary Alexander Duncan. He was the fourth child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his sisters, Myrtle, Freddie and Doris. He received his early education by attending Dunbar High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. On October 17, 1942, Alexander enlisted in the United States Army. While in the Army, he earned a Good Conduct Medal. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged at the rank of a Corporal (E5). In 1931, Alexander wed the former Hennie Lee in Little Rock. There were three children born to their union. He later wed, Eula Faye Duncan. They first met in California. The both of them were business entrepreneurs. He was the owner of Duncan Shoes and she was the owner of Duncan Beauty Academy both were located in Denver. Eula preceded him in death. Alexander was a hard-working man who led by example. He was a mentor to many young men and women often encouraging them to excel in whatever they wanted to pursue in life. He was a loving, kind and nurturing father who was also an encourager to his nieces and nephews. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Alexander was a faithful and dedicated member of Zion Baptist Church. He joined the church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Wendell T. Liggins. He is recognized as a fifty year plus member and he was elite member of the Zion Baptist Church Centurions. At the time of his passing, Alexander Duncan was 105 years old. He remained active until his health began to decline just a few short years ago. Alexander was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed the beauty of the Colorado Mountains. He loved fishing, boating and spending quality time with family and friends. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Alexander was to love him. Alexander Duncan departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on March 18, 2016, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include a daughter, Billie Jean Foster of Kansas City, MO; 2 grandchildren, Shelley Foster and Maurice Foster of Kansas City, MO; his devoted and loving niece, Murlene Threet of Denver; and a host of other nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
