Merlynn Moore

February 4, 1944 — August 3, 2014

Merlynn Moore was born on February 4, 1944, in Red River County, Texas to her parents, Archie Woods, Sr. and Thesolean Lockhart Woods. She was the first born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Tommie, Archie, Jr., Mark, W. James and her sisters, Mary, Wanda, Eulla, Connie and Bonnie. Growing up, she was the surrogate mother to her nine siblings while her mother worked. She was very active in sports, playing baseball and a member of the bowling team. She started working in church activities at a very early age. She was a member of the choir, a member of the usher board and she taught Sunday school. Merlynn received her early education by graduating from high school in Hobbs, New Mexico. She furthered her education by earning a Bachelor's Degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado in 1995. In 1964, Merlynn united in holy matrimony to Bonnie Johnson in Hobbs, New Mexico. With this union, she became the step mother of Betty Johnson. This marriage was later dissolved. On March 18, 1978, she wed James E. Moore in Denver, Colorado. She now became the step mother of a charming step son named Quentin; as well as two boxers named, Penny & Pepper. They all shared many happy and precious moments together before the dissolution of the marriage. Merlynn has always had strong work ethics. She became the Secretary at the Washington School in Hobbs, New Mexico, shortly after graduating from High School. Most recently, she was employed by Coors Brewery as a Quality Assurance Supervisor. She was hardworking, dedicated and performed her duties with precision and accuracy. Merlynn was a faithful and dedicated member of True Light Baptist Church for a number of years. She served her church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend William T. Golson. She truly enjoyed the fellowship shared with her church family and the knowledge she gained as she studied the Bible. She was also an active member of the Lion's Club located in the historic Denver Five Points Area. She worked with the Redeemed Ones Jail and Prison Ministry, as they helped those who were incarcerated to re-acclimate themselves back into society and offer hope, prayer and encouragement to those behind prison walls. Her closest friend, Pat Wynn, will miss her directness, her generosity and the comraderies they shared together. Merlynn was the matriarch of her family. She was very proud of that role and she took it seriously. She offered direction, strength and guidance to all her siblings and other family members. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this Queen of a Woman. To know Merlynn was to love her.
